William Michael Zabka was born on October 20, 1965, in New York City,
right in the heart of a creative family. His dad, Stanley Zabka, was a director and writer
(he even worked on a Chuck Norris flick, Forced Vengeance), while his mom, Nancy,
was a producer and business whiz. Growing up with a brother, Guy, and sister, Judy –
both talented musicians – William caught the showbiz bug early. He went to El Camino Real High School in
LA and later studied film at Cal State Northridge, but acting? That’s where he found his groove.
His big break came in 1984 when he landed the role of Johnny Lawrence in The Karate Kid.
Fun fact: he had zero martial arts experience – he was a wrestler in school! But he dove in, trained in Tang Soo Do
(he’s now a second-degree green belt), and turned Johnny into the ultimate ‘80s bad boy. That blonde hair, that smirk – he was the guy you loved to hate.
More Than Just a Bully
After The Karate Kid and its 1986 sequel, William didn’t just coast on that fame. He popped up in
