Introduction: Pritzker on Trump

Welcome to Chicago, Democrats! We are a great American city in a proud blue state. Our patriotism was forged in ice and fire and forged in steel to survive both. Love for our country has been a sign of faith, from Abraham Lincoln reuniting a divided house to Barack Obama declaring that blue and red states would form the United States of America.

The Illinois president’s pedigree is unparalleled. And given that Vice President Kamala Harris spent part of her childhood here, I say on behalf of the entire Illinois delegation that we claim them too. Well, the only president we’ll ever claim is the fraud the Republicans nominated in Milwaukee last month. Donald Trump once called Chicago “embarrassing.” In the words of the great Chicagoan, who accordingly won six World Championships: “We take it personally.”

I had to lead the country for two years when Trump was president. I’ll tell you what bothers me. In Illinois, we passed important legislation to improve our roads and bridges. When Donald proposed his own plan, he turned around and called it “nonsense.” We abolished the food tax. Donald hasn’t been to a supermarket since his first bankruptcy. Illinois has invested in clean energy and the jobs it creates. Donald said offshore wind turbines make whales “a bit like grandmas”.

During Covid, we supported small businesses and jobs. And Donald, Donald asked for a batch of bleach. Donald Trump says he wants to entrust the economy to him because he is very rich.

Take it from a real billionaire:

Trump is rich in one thing: stupidity.

I meet business leaders all the time, and they all have one universal need: people. They need more jobs to fill all the jobs, but the Republicans’ anti-freedom and anti-family MAGA policies are driving workers away.
