During Tuesday night’s televised debate, the two candidates for the next vice president of the United States debated which party would be best suited to resolve the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, did not directly respond to a question about whether he would support a preemptive Israeli strike against Iran. But he said he supported Israel’s continued support for pro-Iranian delegations.
Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, said Israel has a responsibility to consider “what it feels needs to be done for the security of its country.”
The two candidates also discussed former President Donald Trump’s decision in 2018 to withdraw the United States from the Iran nuclear deal negotiated by the Barack Obama administration, which barred Iran from enriching uranium beyond 4%. Nuclear weapons require uranium enriched to about 90%.
