INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) — Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett led the Rams to a 13-12 victory over the Cowboys in the final seconds of Sunday’s season opener at Sofay Ta Stadium.
With three minutes to play, the Rams were down 12-6.
Bennett had a shaky performance during the game,
throwing four touchdowns, completing 24 of 38 attempts and posting a QB rating of 48.5.
But when it mattered most, he stayed calm and pulled off a heroic act in the final moments.
He drove the Rams’ offense 70 yards on 13 plays.

With four seconds left on fourth-and-goal, Bennett rolled left and threw an off-balance side-arm dart that hit Miller Forristall in the end zone.
Joshua Carty’s PAT secured the win, but the Cowboys couldn’t break free with a punt return in the final minute.
Bennett was drafted by the Rams in 2023 out of Georgia and is expected to be Matthew Stafford’s primary backup for the first two games of the regular season while Jimmy Garoppolo serves his two-game suspension.
Coach Sean McVay traditionally rests his regulars in the preseason to give substitutes and new players a chance to showcase their skills.
Stetson Bennett’s first game action in nearly a year didn’t go as well as expected. But there was also a glimmer of hope.
The Rams’ second-year quarterback overcame four interceptions and threw the game-winning touchdown pass that led the Rams to a 13-12 preseason victory over the Cowboys.
The 18-play drive was supposed to have ended with the No. 5 pick, but a defensive holding penalty by Dallas ruined that.
Wide receiver Jordan Whittington, Texas’ No. 213 of the season, said it was great to play at Sophie Stadium for the first time.
“It was unbelievable, surreal,” Whittington told ABC7’s Kurt Sandoval.
“This is what you dream about. It’s a blessing to see my name on an NFL jersey.”
The Rams will “see” the Chargers on Saturday, August 17th at SoFi in the second week of the preseason.
Pregame coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. on ABC7.
