Holi is called the festival of colors. It is one of the most important festivals of India. Holi is celebrated with great enthusiasm and enthusiasm by the followers of Hindu religion every year in March. Every year, people who celebrate this festival look forward to playing with colors and enjoying delicious food.

Holi means celebrating with friends and family. People forget their worries and enjoy this festival to celebrate brotherhood. In other words, we forget our enemies and get into the holiday mood.

Holi is called the festival of colors as people play with colors and apply them on each other’s faces to paint the essence of the festival.

History of Holi

It is believed in Hindu religion that a long time ago there lived a king of demons named Hiranyakashyap. He had a son named Prahalad and a sister named Holika. It is believed that the demon king had received the blessings of Lord Brahma. This blessing meant that no person, animal or weapon could kill him.

This blessing became a curse for him as he became very egoistic. He ordered his kingdom to worship him instead of God, and did not even spare his son.

Then everyone except his son Prahalad started worshiping him. Prahalad refused to worship his father instead of God because he was a true believer of Lord Vishnu. Seeing his disobedience, the demon king along with his sister conspired to kill Prahalad.

He forced her to sit in the fire with her son in her lap, where Holika got burnt and Prahalad came out safely. This indicates that God protected him because of his devotion. Therefore, people started celebrating Holi as the victory of good over evil.

The Celebration of Holi

Especially in North India, people celebrate Holi with great zeal and enthusiasm. A day before Holi, people perform a ritual called Holika Dahan. During this ritual, people pile wood in public places and burn them.

It symbolizes the burning of evil forces and retells the story of Holika and King Hiranyakashyap. Furthermore, they gather around Holika to seek blessings and offer their devotion to the Lord.

The next day is probably the most colorful day in India. People wake up in the morning and worship the Lord, then wear white clothes and play with flowers.

They sprinkle water on each other. Children run and spray water colors from water guns. In the same way, even adults become children on this day. They apply color on each other’s faces and dive into the water.

In the evening they take bath and wear nice clothes to meet their friends and family. They dance all day long and drink a special drink called “Bhang”. People of all ages enjoy the special Holi dish “Gujiya” with great pleasure.

In short, Holi spreads love and brotherhood. This brings harmony and prosperity in the country. Holi symbolizes the victory of good over evil. This colorful holiday brings people together and removes all kinds of negativity from life.
