Introduction: Police are investigating
Hours after Miami Dolphins All-Pro wide
receiver Tyreek Hill was handcuffed en
route to the season opener against
Jacksonville on Sunday morning, Miami-Dade
police announced that at least four
people were involved in the traffic stop.

Videos and photos posted on social media show a Miami police officer sitting on the ground in handcuffs, his knee pressed against Hill’s back and pinned next to a luxury sports car. The incident occurred directly in front of Hard Rock Stadium, but the exact distance is unknown.
After the game, Hill told reporters that he “doesn’t know” why he was handcuffed, adding that “it wasn’t disrespectful” because that’s not how my mother raised me.

“…I don’t want to bring race into it, but when you do that, sometimes it’s a little ambiguous,” Hill said. “What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill? God knows what they would have done…”
One officer was reappointed. Is there more to come?
As of Sunday evening, police had not released body camera footage, the names of the officers involved, or other details about the events that led to Hill’s arrest. Citing a commitment to transparency and accountability, MDPD Chief Stephanie Daniels said the department is reviewing how the suspension could occur between the officer and the NFL’s core group. Daniels also said one of the four officers involved was placed on administrative duties.
“I have requested an immediate review of all details of this incident,” Daniels said in a statement, which did not elaborate on the status of the other three officers. “We are also reviewing available body camera footage and will update as more information becomes available.”
“James Reyes, head of the Department of Public Safety and candidate for sheriff, said in a post on X that internal review is critical to maintaining public trust. In a statement Sunday night, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniela Levine Cava praised Daniels and Reyes for launching a “swift internal review.”
