Veteran star John Amos has died aged 84.
Amos, who worked on projects such as Good
Times and Roots, died of natural causes in Los
Angeles on August 21, Variety reported.
His son Kelly Christopher Amos mourned the death of
John Amos, saying in a statement: “I am deeply
saddened by the death of my father. He had the
kindest heart and a heart of gold…”
And he is loved all over the world and many
fans consider him to be the father of television. “

work as an actor in television and film. My
father loved acting his whole life and most

Amos’ acting career began in 1970 when he played meteorologist Gordon
“Gordie” Howard on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. From there, he brought his comedic talents to the CBS spin-off series Good Times, Maude and All in the Family. and in 1974 he played James Evans Sr.’s father. The Norman Lear Show made history as the first television show to feature a two-parent African-American family.
Amos was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1977 for his portrayal of the adult Gunda Kinde in the ABC historical miniseries Roots. Amos has also appeared on shows such as The Andersons, The West Wing, Two and a Half Men and The Ranch. His most recent television role is in the upcoming “Suits L.A.” will be in series.
He has had film roles in Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America and its 2021 sequel Coming 2 America, Die Hard 2, The Beastmaster, Locked Down and Me Time. He and his son also made an upcoming documentary about his life, called American Dad.
