Introduction: Bill Clinton calls
The 42nd president, who has spoken at every
Democratic convention since 1976,

vowed to do her part to make Harris
the country’s first female president.
CHICAGO – Former President Bill Clinton
on Wednesday night mocked Republican
nominee Donald Trump as a narcissist obsessed
with petty annoyances that have nothing
to do with the problems of everyday Americans.
Democratic National Convention,
In her speech at the Democratic National Convention, Clinton contrasted Trump’s concerns about population numbers with Vice President Kamala Harris’ focus on improving lives.
“I think we have a pretty clear choice in 2024,” Clinton told the audience at the United Center.
“Because of people, I am the other, myself and myself,” Harris added.
Mindful of New York Gov. Mario Cuomo’s admonishment to “fight in poetry, govern in prose,” Clinton gave the speech a folksy tone, adding to the excitement surrounding Harris’ candidacy.
But the 42nd president also defeated Trump,
to the delight of a party audience hungry for victory,
this fall. Former President Barack Obama once
called Clinton “the minister who explains things.”
But Clinton admitted that even she couldn’t explain Trump’s repeated references to the cannibal Hannibal Lecter from the 1991 horror film The Silence of the Lambs during the campaign.
But just two months later, after a series of questionable pardons she granted in her final days in office, Clinton’s popularity rating fell 22 points.
He ran for president on behalf of his wife in
2008 and 2016, but lost both elections.
He is now ready to fight for Harris in the battleground states.
He may be able to win over Harris among older voters who believe he led a strong economy in the 1990s.
“If you vote for this team and let it elect you and breathe new life into it, you will be proud of this team for the rest of your life,” Clinton said. “Your children will be proud of it. Your grandchildren will be proud.”
“I will do my part,” he added. “You’re doing your job.”
