As for that special musical guest… where was Beyoncé on the final night of the DNC?
Introduction: As for that special
The final night of the 2024 Democratic National
Convention has been rumored for high-profile,
unannounced musical guests — including performances
by Stevie Wonder and John Legend on Wednesday.
The announced guests, namely The Six and Pink,
brought plenty of star power with them. But neither
Beyoncé nor Taylor Swift joined them,
and this protest was foreshadowed by much
speculation on social media, but never confirmed.
Instead, there’s a previously unannounced special
guest… nobody. The evening’s chairman, Vice
President Harris, stole the show – perhaps that was the point.
Of course, there will still be time for some top
quality music commercials in the coming days and
weeks. Thursday evening’s celebration ended with a musical performance.
Citing two sources, The Hill incorrectly reported
that the superstar would be making music.
A source reported meeting Beyoncé in Chicago.
Instead, the conference ended, as expected,
with a speech by Harris, whose speech was
preceded by a video. North Carolina Governor
Roy Cooper was the last speaker before Harris.
The Chicks open the primetime
The Chicks open the primetime show Thursday with a joint performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” featuring three melodic, ambitious stars from a country whose complex history has intersected with politics for decades. Performance experienced some setbacks in terms of momentum but rose to record highs.
Within an hour, Pink took the stage and delivered a rousing, near-perfect rendition of the 2017 protest anthem “What About Us.” Accompanied by a guitarist and four backup singers, including her 13-year-old daughter Willow Sageheart, Pink continued to deliver her thematic message , while the choir sang the song. / How come I said I had an answer? – All of a sudden.
But as for live music in prime time, so be it. Speeches, balloon drops, Beyoncé’s 2016 hit, “Freedom” blasting from the loudspeakers, celebrities in the crowd, bleary-eyed family members… the evening promised to be a typical political meeting. If Beyoncé and Taylor Swift want to personally join our national conversation, they have 74 days to do so.
