WASHINGTON — WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump plans to attend the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual meeting in Chicago on Wednesday.
In a statement released Monday evening, Trump’s campaign team said the Republican presidential nominee would participate in a question-and-answer session “that will focus on the most serious issues facing the Black community.”
The Trump campaign spent months planning appearances outside his traditional strongholds of support, including when he attended the Libertarian Party’s convention in Washington earlier this year — and was heavily jeered there.
In its statement, the campaign criticized Trump’s policies, saying they benefited Black Americans during his first term.
President Joe Biden’s popularity ratings among Black voters have declined since he took office in 2021. But the race against Trump has been shaken since the president accepted and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who will become the first Black woman and the first South Asian American to be elected president if she wins in November.
